CURRICULAR STATEMENT
The pupil develops different dimensions of knowledge on the nutrition in other organisms, in their food habits digestion through grouping, models, lecturing, group discussions, etc and evaluation by questioning, participating in group work, reporting, etc.

CONTENT ANALYSIS
TERMS
Amoeba, Hydra, Tapeworm, Algae, Bacteria, Protozoa, Pseudopodia, Food vacuole, Tentacles, Intracellular digestion, Extracellular digestion.

FACTS
                1) Amoeba’s food involves bacteria, algae and protozoa.
                2) It collects its food with the help of pseudopodia.
                3) The food is digested in the food vacuole.
                4) The digestion here is intracellular.
                5) The excretion takes place through body surface.
                6) The food of hydra are small insects and larva.
                7) That is the reason why hydra is carnivorous.
                8) With the help of tentacle it collects its food.
                9) The digestion process in hydra is both intracellular and extracellular.
                10) The waste is thrown out through mouth.
                11) Tape worm is seen in the small intestine of human beings.
                12) There is no complete digestive tract for the tape worm.

CONCEPT

MAJOR CONCEPT
Digestion process in Amoeba, Hydra and Tapeworm

MINOR CONCEPT
1) Amoeba collects its food with the help of pseudopodia and the digestion here is intracellular digestion.
2) Hydra collects its food using tentacle and the digestion here is partially intracellular and partially extracellular.

PROCESS
                Digestion.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
                To enable the pupils,
recognizing the term digestion, nutrition in other animals.
recalling the different types of organisms in nutrition.
exemplifying different types of organisms in based on nutrition and digestion.
classifying the organisms based on food, food habits, digestion, and excretion.
                For developing factual knowledge.
explaining the food habits of amoeba, hydra and tapeworm.
comparing the food habits of any two organisms.
recalling the different types of organisms in food habits and excretion.
recognizing the term such as pseudopodia, tentacles, etc.
                For developing conceptual knowledge.
summarizing the nutrition in thesethree organisms.
comparing the food habits in these three organisms and human beings.
explaining the digestive methods of amoeba, hydra and tapeworm.
checking the write down the correct peculiarities of each groups.
                For developing procedural knowledge.
Develops process skills such as observing the picture of these three micro organisms, identifying peculiarities of these three micro organisms, classifying the food habits, excretion, digestion of these animals, communicating with others about the digestive system of these animals.
Develops positive attitude towards nutrition of human beings.

PRE REQUISITE
The organisms are differentiated by food, food habits, digestion, excretion, etc.

TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES
Video    - Food habits of Amoeba, Hydra
                Pictures  - Amoeba,hydra,tapeworm
                Charts   - Amoeba,hydra food habits.

CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE

EXPECTED PUPIL RESPONSE

INTRODUCTION
Teacher establishes rapport with the students by
an informal interaction by asking questions like,
What are the foods we taken?
What was the reason for it?
Thus digestion takes place only in human beings?
PRESENTATION
Activity1
Teacher divides students into 4 groups. Then gives 4 names, namely amoeba, pseudopodia, hydra, tentacles. Then for the help of ICT, teacher gives some of pictures and video of amoeba.

Hints
What are the major foods of amoeba?

How were they collecting food?
Where does intra cellular digestion takes place?

Activity 2
Teacher gives the instruction cards of hydra in groups. Then video and pictures are shown.

Hydra

Food :small insects,larva

Helps :tentacles

Digestion :food vacuoles,mouth

Hints
What are the major foods hydra?
How were they collecting food?
Where digestion does takes place?

Activity 3
Teacher shows some points about tapeworm in groups.

TAPEWORM
It is seen in small intestine in humans.
There was not seen in a fully developed digestive tract.
They absorb food particles through body surface.

Hint
Why tapeworm is called as an endoparasite?

SUMMARISATION
Through discussion and presentation, students get information about digestion in other organisms.
Amoeba(cb), hydra(cb), tapeworm(cb), pseudopodia(cb), tentacles(cb).

Meals,chichen,egg,vegetables,etc

For energy

No

Algae,protozoa,bacteria,etc.

For the help of pseudopodia.
In food vacuoles.

small insects and larva
for the help of tentacles.
In food vacuoles and mouth.

Because, they are seen in small intestine in humans and they have no digestive tract. They absorbs food through body surfaces.

FORMATIVE EVALUATION PROCEDURE

REVIEW
Teacher gives some cards about three organisms and there instructions. Then match it.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY
Collect some information about other organisms and their food habits.
